Hey Compound & Fire community,
I’m excited to share a fresh Quick Scan on Norbit ASA (NORBT), a Norwegian technology company making waves in the maritime, wireless, and industrial sectors. As part of my Quality Investing journey, this snapshot highlights why Norbit is a strong contender for my watchlist—and potentially a deeper dive in the near future.
Who is Norbit ASA?
Norbit is a global leader in tailored tech solutions, focusing on sonar technology for maritime markets (Oceans segment), asset identification and tracking (Connectivity), and R&D/contract manufacturing for defense and security (PIR). With a current market cap of NOK 11.48 billion and revenues of NOK 1.75 billion in 2024, Norbit has shown consistent growth and operational excellence. Their diversified business model and niche market leadership make them a compelling player in the tech space.
Quick Scan Results: Investment Readiness Score of 89%
My Quick Scan evaluates companies across three key areas: Company Snapshot, Financial Health & Performance, and Shareholder Value & Suitability. Norbit scores an impressive 89% Investment Readiness Score (IRS)—well above my 80% threshold for quality investing candidates. Here’s the total Quick Scan:
With an IRS of 89%, Norbit passes our initial screen with flying colors, making it a prime candidate for further analysis.
Q1 2025 Update: Strong Growth & Stock Price Surge
Norbit’s Q1 2025 results further underscore its momentum. The company reported revenues of NOK 521.7 million, a 39% increase from NOK 377.0 million in Q1 2024, driven by robust demand across all segments—particularly Oceans, which saw 43% growth thanks to strong sonar sales. EBIT came in at NOK 57.0 million with a steady 10.9% margin, aligning with management’s outlook to hit NOK 2.2–2.3 billion in annual revenue for 2025 (a 25–30% growth over 2024) and improve EBIT margins beyond 2024’s 20%. Management even called these targets “conservative,” hinting at potential upside.
The market has taken notice: Norbit’s stock price jumped nearly 10% following the Q1 announcement and is already up an impressive 73% year-to-date in 2025, closing at NOK 179.8 as of the latest data. With a low net interest-bearing debt-to-EBITDA ratio of 0.5x and strong cash flow, Norbit is well-positioned for both organic growth and value-accretive acquisitions.
What’s Next?
Norbit’s 89% IRS score flags it as a high-quality candidate for my portfolio, but the next step is a deep dive analysis to explore its competitive moat, growth sustainability, and risks in greater detail. While this isn’t scheduled yet, Norbit is firmly on my radar, and I’ll keep you posted on when we’ll dig deeper.
